BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil," a sequel to the 2014 dark fantasy film "Maleficent" with Angelina Jolie portraying the title role, topped the Chinese mainland box office Monday, the China Movie Data Information Network said Tuesday.
The film grossed over 21.72 million yuan (around 3.07 million U.S. dollars) on the fourth day of its screening.
It was followed by "The Captain," a domestic disaster film about a miraculous emergency landing of the Sichuan Airlines flight 3U8633 in May 2018, which raked in around 15.24 million yuan on the 22nd day of its screening.
Coming in third was science fiction film "Gemini Man," which generated about 13.47 million yuan.
The film, directed by Oscar-winning director Ang Lee, stars Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a younger clone of himself that seemingly can predict his every move.
